Go Behind the Science with Mote Marine Laboratory

by | Feb 5, 2010 | Bike from Laurel Park, Events, Exploring the Area, Nature

Sarasota’s very own Mote Marine Laboratory is renowned for their scientific research. But one needn’t be a scientist to get a behind the scenes look at what makes the Sarasota Bay area such a dynamic marine ecosystem. Mote Marine’s Behind the Science program stimulates inquiring minds with six rotating topics: Rescue, Rehab, Release; Saving Seahorses; Spineless Sea; Water World; Exploring the Bay; and Kayaking.

Residents of Laurel Park can enjoy an easy bike ride, drive, or bus ride from Downtown Sarasota across the bay to Mote Marine Laboratory, located just north of St. Armand’s Circle.

Program Description: Learn about the marine animals and plants that thrive in Florida’s coastal waters as you kayak in Sarasota Bay. All kayaking equipment is provided and class begins with basic kayaking instruction.

Age: 11 years old through adult. Kids under 14 must attend class with an adult. Pre-registration is required.

Member Price: $14 per person
