Looking for options for ringing in the New Year? Come celebrate in downtown Sarasota as the city of Sarasota begins its 98th year! Presented by the Downtown Sarasota Alliance, the Downtown New Year’s Eve Block Party is a great place to meet your neighbors, bring the kids, and then party away the last of 2010. Festivities will include live music and dancing, a kids fun zone, the magic midway and carnival, and of course beer, wine, cocktails, and champagne. Car traffic is shut down, allowing people to take to the streets—on Main, Lemon, First, and State. And everything is walkable from both Laurel Park and Gillespie Park! The pineapple drops at midnight at Main Street and Lemon.

Of course, the Downtown New Year’s Eve Block Party isn’t the only show in town. Some other options within non-motorized reach for Laurel Park Management residents (source: Explore Your Sarasota) include:

Bijou Cafe, 1287 1st St., Sarasota, will be open for dinner on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. And, starting Jan. 2, the restaurant will be open on Sundays for dinner from 5 until 9 p.m. Call 366-8111.

First Street Chop House, 1296 1st St., Sarasota, will be featuring the Black Diamond Burlesque on New Year’s Eve. $60. Evening includes Champagne toast, party favors, two drink/food tickets, three stages and three DJs. Call 554-4375.

MoZaic, 1377 Main St., Sarasota, will be open on New Year’s Eve, with the restaurant offering dinner paired with wines from Caymus Winery. Two seatings: a three-course early seating and a five-course later seating. Call 951-6272 or visit MoZaicSarasota.com.

At Mattison’s City Grille, 1 N. Lemon Ave., Sarasota, (330-0440), guests will be in the midst of the celebration and can watch as the big pineapple drops at midnight.
